Art has always been a controversial topic. It explores the worlds of sensitivity, communication and personal expression. All these are very complex and sensitive topics. Thus, art has always been at the center of social conflicts. Art has always positioned itself. The issue of censorship is a natural consequence. There are always two sides. Those who like and those who don’t like what is done, said or shown.
Freedom of expression is like freedom in general relative. We are never fully free, anywhere. Even thought is free only as long as it is not disclosed to the external world. Thus, policing, in the form of censorship, has affected cultural production since the emergence of writing. With photography it couldn’t be any different. Even more so when the theme is the artistic nude. A controversial and controversial topic. What to show? How to show it?
What can and cannot be seen? In controlled and private environments, almost everything should be allowed. Only actions that pose a threat to human health, physical well-being, and life should be subject to regulation. In public, however, social rules, for the good of all, must be observed. That’s the general idea. But who defines what can or cannot be seen in private? Who defines what you are and are not entitled to see? Saying what a person can or cannot think and feel is dictatorship. The worst form of individual imprisonment. It’s the book 1984. It’s Big Brother full time. And this is not good for humanity, which has always been creative and has always aspired to freedom.
No one is truly complete without the ability to think and act freely. Particularly for artists, whose livelihood depends on their creativity.
