The story of Lady Godiva was that of a 13th century heroin that rode through the streets of Coventry covered only in her long locks, defying the sensibilities of her time to relieve the financial oppression imparted by her husband on the town’s occupants. Her legacy is one of enduring strength, beauty, and defiance. In these images, photographer April Visel has reimagined the legend of Lady Godiva in uniquely delicate and sensuous manner riding an Arabian stallion to echo Godiva’s psyche. The Arabian is the original breed of war horse and the breed is known for being one of the most beautiful and charismatic breeds of horses.
