In this Boudoir Inspiration interview, photographer Nicole Oberhofer shares the story behind her artistic nude series Where the Fields Keep Secrets and reflects on the creative approach that shapes her boudoir and fine art photography.

Set among dense cornfields, the series explores the quiet relationship between the female form and the natural world. The landscape becomes part of the visual language of the photographs, creating moments of concealment and revelation while natural light, gesture and surroundings build a sense of privacy, mystery and stillness.

In our conversation, Nicole talks about what boudoir photography means to her, how her own experience in front of the camera influenced her photographic journey, the importance of trust in boudoir and nude photography, and why individuality, atmosphere, light and emotion remain central to her work.

Where the Fields Keep Secrets

Where the Fields Keep Secrets is an intimate artistic nude series exploring the quiet connection between the female form and the natural world. Surrounded by dense cornfields, the model becomes part of the landscape — at times hidden, at times revealed. The images move between vulnerability, sensuality and quiet strength, using natural surroundings, gesture and light to create a sense of privacy, mystery and stillness.

Meet the Photographer: Nicole Oberhofer

Nicole Oberhofer approaches boudoir and fine art photography as a way of revealing individual beauty rather than pursuing an ideal of perfection.

Her work is shaped by an interest in emotion, atmosphere and the relationship between light and shadow. For Nicole, photographing the body is not simply about documenting physical form. It is about recognizing what is distinctive about the person in front of her camera and translating that presence into an image.

In this interview with Boudoir Inspiration, she discusses how a personal boudoir experience influenced her own photographic path, how she creates trust with clients and models, and why the emotional impact of the final photographs remains one of the most rewarding parts of her work.

Interview with Nicole Oberhofer

1. What does boudoir photography mean to you?

Boudoir photography is a very special way for me to show a person in their sensual beauty. Every body is unique and deserves to be seen and portrayed in its own individual way.

For me, it is not about perfection, but about making a person’s individual beauty visible. It is one of the most beautiful ways to show someone just how wonderful they truly are.

2. Why did you choose to pursue a career as a boudoir / fine art photographer? What got you started in boudoir?

My journey into boudoir photography began with a very personal experience. I booked a boudoir session with a fellow photographer myself and was so inspired by the experience that I wanted to explore this kind of photography more deeply.

Over time, I realized that traditional studio photography alone was no longer the path I wanted to follow. Boudoir and fine art photography allow me to work in a much more emotional, sensual and creative way — and this is where I found my own photographic direction.

3. What kind of creative process is there behind boudoir photography?

For me, the creative process begins with recognizing what is special and beautiful about a person. Everyone brings something different — a certain presence, body language, personality or mood.

I see my role as a photographer in recognizing these qualities and using light, posing, surroundings and atmosphere to create an image that feels individual and harmonious.

I don’t simply want to photograph a body. I want to make a mood and a feeling visible.

4. How do you communicate with a client or model you’ve just met to make them comfortable for boudoir / nude photography?

As I am also a trained makeup artist, makeup is part of my photo sessions. The time we spend together before the actual shoot is especially valuable to me because it gives me the opportunity to get to know my client in a relaxed way.

We talk, the first uncertainties begin to disappear and trust can develop before we even start taking photographs. Because of this, we usually begin the actual session feeling much more relaxed.

Especially in boudoir and nude photography, it is very important to me that the person in front of my camera feels safe, respected and well cared for.

5. How do you educate yourself to take better photos?

I regularly attend workshops to continue developing as a photographer, gain new inspiration and exchange ideas and experiences with fellow photographers.

I also love to travel. Other countries, people, places, different qualities of light and cultures continually inspire me in new ways.

I believe that development does not come from technique alone. It also comes from remaining open, observing the world around you and allowing new experiences to influence your own work.

6. How would you describe your photography style?

I would describe my style as aesthetic, mysterious and elegant.

Light and shadow play a very important role in my photography. I love images that do not reveal everything immediately, but leave room for imagination.

For me, sensuality can be present without being loud or intrusive.

7. What kind of other gear do you use for boudoir and/vs other?

I work with both studio flash and natural light. Which type of light I choose depends on the location, the atmosphere and the idea behind the image.

For me, light is one of the most important creative tools in photography. It determines not only how the body is revealed, but above all the atmosphere and emotion of an image.

8. Among your works, which one is your favorite? Why?

I don’t have one particular image that I would describe as my absolute favorite.

I feel that I am constantly developing as a photographer. With every new experience, new images emerge that touch me in different ways.

That is exactly what I love about photography: new, powerful and sensual works continue to evolve, and each one represents a particular moment in my own creative development.

9. What is the most rewarding part of being a boudoir photographer for you?

The most rewarding part for me is seeing that special glow on someone’s face.

When a woman or a man sees their photographs after a session and suddenly looks at themselves with different eyes, I find that incredibly fulfilling.

If they leave the experience with more confidence, a better relationship with their own body and perhaps even greater body acceptance, that means a great deal to me.

This transformation is one of the reasons why I love boudoir photography so much.

10. Do you have any other profession or anything you are passionate about?

Photography is not simply a profession for me. It feels like my calling, and it is something I live with all my heart and passion.

Photographing people, recognizing their personality and creating images that have real meaning for them is deeply fulfilling to me. I feel that photography is exactly what I am meant to do.

Where Nature, Sensuality and Stillness Meet

Where the Fields Keep Secrets demonstrates how artistic nude photography can use the natural environment as an active part of its visual language.

Rather than separating the figure from the landscape, Nicole Oberhofer allows the two to interact. The cornfields create concealment, texture and intimacy, while natural light and gesture determine what is revealed and what remains unseen.

The result is a series built around a delicate tension between visibility and privacy, vulnerability and strength, the human form and the landscape surrounding it.

Through both the project and her interview, Nicole’s perspective returns to a consistent idea: meaningful boudoir and fine art photography begins not with perfection, but with seeing the individuality of the person in front of the camera.
